Well, this is a question not many of us think about when we go to any place maintained by a staff, especially when we reach there at a normal time when it has all the stores filled with customers. Normally, on any given day, Mall Of India, located in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India has the visions (full of colorfully and aesthetically put up lights and products), the sounds (comprising of the latest and the best of music) and the smells (an impeccable fragrance created and maintained by the scents used to freshen up the ambiance), which overwhelm our senses to a level that we fail to recognize the hard work of the staff members who work to give us a world-class experience.
Okay, let me first clarify that I have not been paid to say all these good things about this mall, it’s just that I happened to reach this place at a time when the mall had not even opened its main gates. I had to take a good 15-minutes walk around the premises to utilize my time before the security guard could let me in at 10 a.m.
As I entered the mall and saw some sights to which we are not really accustomed to, I started to think about what exactly goes on in a mall before people start pouring in to enjoy themselves. Normally, the lights in the mall can almost blind you by their sheer intensity but at that hour, there was tranquillity. Not all the lights of all the lanes were on, only some stores had opened up and in those stores too, even if the lights were on, the shutters were still half way up, meaning nobody could enter and shop there. And many were closed even.
At the food joints and restaurants, some lone workers were busy getting their menu items up and running. The cleaning staff of the mall and the respective stores were diligently doing their work with every product one can think of, to clean every signate, every bar, every pole, and basically every corner. The moping men were working in full glory with their instruments.
As I sat there watching these men and women work their way up to make the place look absolutely clean and shiny, I could not help myself from thanking them for working so hard to make our experience so good here. It is then that I realized, that it is not just the high-end brands that make MOI such a great place to hang out with family and friends but it is the determination of every person working here that makes us want to visit this mall so frequently,
I finally settled for my morning coffee at the Cafe, and it was a good hour later that people started settling in; couples rushing to the movie showtimes, business partners sitting with their coffees to discuss their business plans, middle-aged women coming to their special girls’ day out; all of them being happy to be in such a hip and happening place, oblivious to how it actually became so brightly and enthusiastically ready for their welcome.
Being a resident of Delhi and the author of Writings On Places, a write-up on MOI was almost a must but had I not accidentally reached there so early that day, I too would have only written about how the ambience of that place is so superb. But, I am glad that I saw all of this and realized why we actually enjoy our time at MOI; for it feels fresh, it makes us believe that the world is all bright and rosy, and the secret behind this is the hard work of the people who work here every day and welcome us all with a smile.
In the end, I would like to say ‘Thank You,’ to everyone who works at this mall and actually at every place which ensures that when people come to their beloved workplace, they have a great time.
