France is the most visited country in the world, and Paris is among the most visited cities and after getting to know these facts, it is not a surprise Eiffel Tower is the most visited place on this earth, where people pay to get to the iconic Tower. The confusion is whether Eiffel Tower is famous because of Paris or Paris is popular because of Eiffel Tower. In my opinion, the latter case is true, but obviously, you may differ from my point of view. Nevertheless, the fact still remains that the tower is indeed is the most famous place on earth, and today we are trying to ascertain exactly why is this cultural icon of France so popular worldwide.
1. People love it
That’s just our way to simply say that the world loves to visit here. Even the French citizens, who detested the presence of the tower for so many years, later accepted it to be a part of their city, and actually fell in love with it because it had made their city really famous, in fact, Eiffel Tower is now the symbol of France.
2. It was made to be destroyed
Yes, as strange as it may sound, the truth is that when Gustave Eiffel designed it for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, the initial plan was to destroy it after 20 years. And going by the reviews it got from artisans and citizens of France, the tower could have actually come down. But because of its height, telegraph companies found it perfect to fix transmission antennas to its top and became one of the major reasons why Eiffel Tower stayed and we are thankful that it did. The tower still houses more than 120 antennas, broadcasting both radio and television signals throughout Paris and beyond.
3. The view of the city from top is magnificent
When you get to the elevator and go to the top, the view that you get from the top of Eiffel Tower is just mind-boggling. The following is just a part of the entire panoramic view that you can get from the top.
4. Popular Culture did wonders to its popularity
So many books and movies have been created, centering their story around the Eiffel Tower that people now consider it as the most romantic place on earth. The way its magnificence has been depicted through popular culture, it is no surprise that almost every person in this world wants to see the tower at least once in their lifetime.
5. It looks stunning at night
The way Eiffel Tower is lighted up at night makes for such a delightful sight that every person just has to exclaim, “WOW.” Apart from the normal way by which it gets lighted up usually, there are certain occasions when there is a special lighting on the Tower.
6. Romance Iconized
This is that one place on the planet, from where you possibly cannot get a no to your proposal. Take her up to the top, or even a place from where the Tower is fully visible from the grounds and proclaim your love to her, and I am sure she will say yes. That is how magically iconic Eiffel Tower is in the realms of romance even.
7. Eiffel Tower is the Cultural and Historical Icon of France
The tower was made in 1889, so obviously it has seen a lot of historical stories pass through it. But, an amazing fact that we would like to share here is that it was actually made to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the French Revolution. And today, it is has emerged as the main cultural icon of the nation which has been flourishing since centuries. You can see all the historical facts about the tower on the tower itself, and you can even have dinner in the restaurants that serve French cuisine, again, on the tower itself.
And these have been just a few of the points which say why is the Iron Lady so popular, its awe is hard to explain because every visitor has a different story to tell as to why they love this place. Do you also have some stories regarding the Eiffel Tower, if so, then pleas share with us. We would love to hear from you.
